Burley Recognized by GCAA

Mr. Raimond Burley, Chairman of the Southwest Georgia Community Action Council Board of Directors, was the recipient of the President's Award at the Georgia Community Action Association (GCAA) 49th Annual Training Conference, held recently in Savannah. The award is presented each year at the Annual Awards Banquet to an individual who has consistently represented GCAA by promoting statewide initiatives, strengthening GCAA partnerships and demonstrating a willingness to further the mission of GCAA. Mr. Burley has served as chairman of the Southwest Georgia Community Action Council Board of Directors since March 2014 and was also appointed to the GCAA Board of Directors in 2014. He has been very active in GCAA activities since that time. The recent growth report for children served by the Southwest Georgia Community Action Council Head Start Program during the 2018-2019 school year indicates that children are making significant progress among the six domains of measurement. Children are assessed in the fall, winter, and spring of the school year. Mulkey-Ndawula Event Center

The Southwest Georgia Community Action Council, Inc. Mulkey-Ndawula Event Center is conveniently located at 910 First Avenue, SE, Moultrie, Georgia. With approximately 8,000 square feet of space, the facility is ideal for gatherings and celebrations of all kinds: weddings, receptions, reunions, banquets, luncheons, showers, special occasions and business meetings/conferences/webinars. Seating capacity is 400 with tables and chairs; 800 when set-up theatre style with chairs only. The center is decorated in neutral tones with beautiful lighting fixtures that complement the colors and theme chosen for any occasion.

Rental fees include round and rectangular tables and chairs for seating up to 100 people (items for additional seating and serving is available at additional costs); stage and podium; and audio-visual equipment, including sound system and three overhead projectors that can be connected to your laptop or other electronic devices. The facility contains a catererís kitchen with range, double ovens, large foodwarmer, refrigeration, and ice machine.

In addition to social occasions, the center is available for conferences, meetings, continuing education, seminars, webinars, and/or teleconferences. Call 229/985-3610 for more information and reservations for your next event.

The Reservation Room

The Reservation Room is conveniently located at 918 First Avenue, SE, Moultrie, Georgia, and is available for day rentals seven days per week. The facility is approximately 1,200 square feet in size and will comfortably accommodate groups of up to 65. The facility is furnished with tables and chairs, includes a handicapped accessible restroom, and offers plenty of convenient paved parking. The Reservation Room is an excellent location for birthday parties, baby showers, graduation parties, anniversary celebrations, and other small gatherings. The cost of rental is $175 per day including a $50 refundable deposit. Call 229-985-3610 for more information and to make your reservation!

Students Say YES! to Twenty-19

This summer the Agency once again hosted the innovative Youth Enrichment Summit (YES!) summer day camps at five sites throughout Southwest Georgia -- Albany, Bainbridge, Blakely, Camilla, and Moultrie. The purpose of Twenty-19 YES! is to provide youth ages 12-14 with the opportunity for experiences to enrich, empower, and inspire them to reach their full potential as students and citizens. YES! is offered free of charge to participants and provides a well-rounded slate of activities based on the STEAM model that focuses on science, technology, engineering, agriculture & art, and math & money management. Campers learn by hands-on participation in targeted activities, service projects, and field trips. We are extremely proud to offer this innovative camp experience and are equally proud of the 162 participating youth!
