SWGACAC reminds you that September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month.
In the past four decades, obesity rates in the United States have soared among all age groups and affected our youth in alarming fashion. Childhood obesity is a serious health problem in the United States where 1 in 5 children and adolescents are affected, a statistic that health and medical experts consider an epidemic. Recent studies indicate that childhood obesity is increasing and starting at earlier ages, leading researchers to express concern over the impact of rising obesity on rates of diabetes, cardiovascular issues, and a wide array of other health issues.
