Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

LIHEAP provides income-eligible households an annual financial benefit (up to $350) toward their home heating costs.

Households in which every member is age 65 or older, homebound, or disabled are given priority and can apply starting in November each year.  If funds remain, other income eligible households can apply beginning in December each year.

Potential applicants must call their local Neighborhood Service Center to be placed on the LIHEAP waiting list.  Applications are taken on a first come, first served basis each year until all funds are exhausted.

The following items are required to verify eligibility:

  • Verification of age for all household members (November only)
  • Verfication of Social Security Numbers (cards) for all household members
  • Verification of all income coming into the household (all members age 18 or older) for the past 30 days
  • Recent heating bill with the service address and account number listed
  • Additional items as requested
