SWGACAC Encourages Everyone to Participate in Census 2010

An accurate census count is important for a multitude of reasons.  Every year more than $300 billion in federal funds are awarded to states and communities based on census data.  Census data guide local decision-makers in important community planning efforts, including where to build new roads, hospitals, and schools.  The census also determines how many seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives as well as the redistricting of state legislatures, county and city councils, and voting districts.  Click on the red box below to find out more about how you can participate in the U.S. Census 2010 and make a difference in our community.

Services Available Under ARRA Funding to Qualifying Households

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) was enacted February 17, 2009.  The overall purpose of the ARRA federal grant programs are to supplement appropriations for job preservation and creation, infrastructure investment, energy efficiency and science, assistance to the unemployed, and state and local fiscal stabilization.

Stimulus funds to assist qualifying local citizens in need have been allocated to Southwest Georgia Community Action Council.  All individuals receiving ARRA services must meet income guidelines established at 200% of the federal poverty level and certain other requirements depending on the service.  Priority is given to those who have recently lost employment or had a significant reduction in employment.

Examples of services include home weatherization, rent/mortgage assistance, utilities assistance, food and clothing assistance, minor vehicle repairs, congregate and home delivered meals, and wheelchair ramps.  Contact your local Neighborhood Service Center for more information and to apply for services.
