Two $1,000 Scholarships to be Awarded
Southwest Georgia Community
Action Council (CAC) joins with the Georgia Community Action Association (GCAA)
in announcing the availability of two one-thousand dollar ($1,000.00)
scholarships to be awarded on a statewide basis to Georgia residents who are
currently attending or have been accepted at a post high school institution.
One of the scholarships will be awarded to a community action agency (CAA)
employee. Non-CAA applicants must be income eligible in accordance with
the Community Services Block Grant guidelines. Applicants must be
successfully judged a winner in an essay writing competition to be awarded a
scholarship. The essay is to be entitled "What Community Action Has Meant to
My Community”. The Georgia Community Action Association is a
professional association composed of twenty member agencies from across the
State, one of which is CAC. The closing date for applications from the CAC
service area is 4:00 p.m., May 14, 2008. Faxed information will not be
accepted.

NHSA Recognizes Head Start Program
Once Again as "Program of Achievement"

The Agency's Head Start program was recognized on April 23, 2008, by the
National Head Start Association at the Quality Initiative Awards Reception in
Nashville, Tennessee, for obtaining recertification as a "Program of
Achievement". Less than 40 of the nearly 2,700 Head Start programs
nationwide have earned this distinction, placing our Head Start program in the
top 1.2% of all Head Start grantees. Pictured with the award at top left

Eve Hayes Recognized as Community
Champion

Ms. Govies Eve Hayes, Emergency Services Coordinator, was
recognized at the Georgia Community Action Association's December 2007 Human
Rights Day Observance as CAC's 2007 Community Champion for her many years of
dedication and selfless service on behalf of those in need.
Under Renovation:
The Future Home of Agency Headquarters

The Agency is moving forward with preliminary work on renovations to the
former Market Square Shopping Center that was purchased to serve as the future
home of the Agency headquarters and renamed Community Action Complex.
The site also houses business tenants including Enterprise Rent-A-Car,
American General Finance, and Cellular Now in parcels located elsewhere within
the complex.
