Greetings My Friends:
It is with great pleasure and pride that I
welcome you to our website. In my opinion, Southwest Georgia
Community Action Council, Inc. (CAC), is one of the finest
administered organizations in the United States. This Agency ‘s
prime goal is to help the less fortunate citizens of southwest Georgia
to rise from dependency to self-sufficiency. For the last
thirty-nine years, CAC has been the “go to” agency for southwest
Georgia citizens who needed a hand up. I have served on the CAC board
for two terms. I have witnessed the professionalism and compassion
with which Agency staff carries out their duties. I have seen this
Agency withstand what I would call the strictest inspection that our
funding sources have ever performed on any similar agency. The
results of the inspection were impressive to be sure: a perfect
monitoring review.
I am proud to be elected as Chairman of the
Board.
As the Agency’s slogan reads, “Helping People
Help Themselves”, CAC has been a shining star of hope for children,
the elderly, the hungry, and the working poor. The Agency itself
employs more than 600 staff members, making it one of the major
employers in this area and, therefore, an important contributor to the
economic health in the service area. The Agency’s management team,
under the leadership of Executive Director Myrtis Mulkey-Ndawula, is
exemplary. The team’s loyalty, enthusiasm, professionalism, and
compassion shine through.
While we have assisted thousands to escape the
jaws of poverty, we still have work to do. Still, there are too many
deserving citizens reaching out for a hand up. We must not fail
them. Even with these uncertain times of budgetary shortfalls and
economic jitters, those of us who have been blessed to have must reach
out and help the have-nots. We must continue to aggressively pursue
proper funding at local, state, and federal levels needed to provide
services to meet pressing needs.
I call upon the political leaders of all eighteen
(18) counties served by CAC to note the fine work this Agency is
doing, and then get even more involved with us as we strive to help
people to help themselves. We are not in the business of “hand-outs”,
but we believe “hand-ups” are both morally right and, in general,
beneficial to us all.
Finally, I call upon our officers and board of
directors to continue to recognize that it is not often that we have
the opportunity to represent an agency of this quality and importance
to our communities. So, will you join me and become great
AMBASSADORS 24 hours a day and 7 days a week for this wonderful
Agency?
Thank you,

James R. Yates
Chairman
Board of Directors
